The Los Angeles Dodgers' farm system continues to produce standout performances, and two of the organization's highest-ranked prospects once again led the way Thursday night.
Outfielder Eduardo Quintero and infielder Emil Morales each homered as High-A Great Lakes defeated Fort Wayne 6-2, combining for four RBIs while extending their recent offensive hot streaks.
The pair have become the centerpiece of the Loons' lineup as both prospects continue strengthening their cases as two of the brightest young talents in the organization.
Quintero has long been known for his ability to reach base and create offense, but recently his power has returned as well.
The 20-year-old launched another home run Thursday, marking his third long ball in his last four games. His two-run blast highlighted a three-run performance in which he also reached base three times.
While the recent home run surge has grabbed attention, Quintero's production has never been dependent on power alone.
Even during an extended stretch earlier this season when the home runs disappeared, he continued to consistently get on base, drive the ball into the gaps, and pressure defenses with his speed.
Since the start of May, Quintero has been one of the Midwest League's most productive hitters, dramatically improving after a slow April and continuing to showcase the well-rounded offensive profile that has elevated him among baseball's top prospects.
Morales is proving his impressive raw power translates at higher levels.
The 19-year-old connected for his third consecutive game with a home run, giving him a new career high in long balls despite playing fewer than 70 games this season. His latest blast also continued an impressive stretch that has seen him emerge as one of the Loons' most dangerous hitters.
After earning an aggressive promotion following his standout performance at Single-A earlier this year, Morales initially experienced the expected adjustment period against more advanced pitching. However, the talented infielder has quickly settled in.
He has hit safely in nine of his last 10 games while consistently producing extra-base hits, a promising sign that he is adapting despite being one of the youngest players in the league.
