The Los Angeles Dodgers may have fallen to the Colorado Rockies, 4-3, but that was due to their bullpen and defense, not Justin Wrobleski.
Wrobleski, 25, failed to pick up his fourth straight win. He remains an unbelievable 10-2 and saw his ERA go from 2.80 to 2.69 as he allowed just one earned run in 7.0 innings of work.
The lefty may have allowed six hits and two walks, but he struck out nine Rockies and did so in just 94 pitches.
Not making the 2026 All-Star game is something that's eaten Wrobleski alive, but ultimately, he went out and proved that no matter what, he's a crucial part of a Dodgers team looking to go through with a historic three-peat.
"You want to be an All-Star,” Wrobleski told The Athletic's Fabian Ardaya. “It’s something that, regardless of the year, whenever, it’s always a big deal. It’s something I wanted to do. It’s frustrating to not get that nod.”
He continued, "For the most part, in the categories that I’m trying to be good at I’ve done a pretty good job."
Ardaya mentioned one of those is first-pitch strikes. Against the Rockies, Wrobleski faced 28 batters and threw first-pitch strikes to 23 of them.
By the end of his outing, he had 15 called strikes, 13 swinging, and 15 in-play strikes. Of the 21 outs he recorded, nine were via strikeout, four were ground balls, and six were fly balls.
A trio of major names have already been ruled out of the All-Star game due to their pitching schedule, but the same can't be said for Wrobleski. Fresh off his final start in the first half of 2026, he was a bit frustrated to see three other pitchers pass him by.
There could still be more replacements, but here in early July, manager Dave Roberts is a firm believer Wrobleski should indeed be an All-Star. The Dodgers already have plenty of representations in this year's game, but that's not the point. Wrobleski's numbers are incredible, and he deserves to be honored.
"It would be validation for him" Roberts said.
Wrobleski added, "Hopefully I can gain the respect of players and everybody else and maybe be in there next year."
The Illinois native has now gone exactly 7.0 innings in his last three starts. He's gone as deep as 8.2, and hasn't gone fewer than 4.0 in his 16 appearances this season, 15 of which have been starts.
