Hyeseong Kim was recently sent down to Triple-A by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
It can't have been a move he was fond of, but it did allow him to experience some new technology: the check-swing challenge.
Some minor league ballparks are starting to implement a system to challenge whether a batter offered at a pitch while checking his swing or not.
The rules set the challenge angle at further out than most umpires enforce the call, leaving some room for the hitter to be right.
Here's how it played out for Kim over the weekend for Oklahoma City:

On the one hand, it becomes more and more for a hitter to keep track of. If you check a swing, you sort of have to sit there thinking not only about where the pitch was located but also about what your hands and wrists did.
On the other hand, it's another opportunity to get a call right.
The check-swing rules have always been a bit tricky for fans to understand. At least with a set angle, ambiguity can be removed, for the most part.
This system isn't in MLB yet, and it's not clear whether it's coming.
At least for now, though, some Triple-A hitters are learning how it works, and maybe they'll be asked to give input on what the next steps should be.
