The Washington Commanders have one of the NFL's best quarterback situations. The Commanders have 2024 NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year Jayden Daniels, backed up by one of the league's top backups, Marcus Mariota.
Is the duo of Daniels and Mariota enough to be considered the NFC's top quarterback room? Not according to CBS Sports analyst Emory Hunt, who ranks Washington as the NFC's No. 4 quarterback room.
Here is Hunt's top eight NFC QB rooms:
San Francisco's top three quarterbacks are Brock Purdy, Mac Jones and Kurtis Rourke. The Seahawks have Sam Darnold, Drew Lock and Jalen Milroe. Dallas has Dak Prescott, Joe Milton and Sam Howell. Washington's third quarterback will either be Sam Hartman or rookie Athan Kaliakmanis.
Do you agree with this list? The 49ers do have an ideal situation, with Jones behind Purdy. He was excellent in relief of Purdy last season, starting eight games. Darnold led the Seahawks to the Super Bowl, but how much do you trust Lock? Milroe is talented, but unproven.
Meanwhile, in Dallas, Howell and Milton are behind Prescott. Howell, a former Washington starter, is on his fifth NFL team in his fifth season. Milton may arguably have the NFL's strongest arm. He hasn't played much in the NFL and his college tape was all over the place.
You could make a strong case that the duo of Daniels and Mariota is the NFC's best. In two seasons for the Commanders, Mariota has appeared in 14 games, starting eight. He's played well, completing 64% of his passes with 14 touchdowns and seven interceptions. He has also proven he can still get things done with his legs.
Obviously, the biggest question mark here is Daniels. If he's healthy, there's no way any of these teams have a better quarterback situation in 2026. Even with the questions surrounding Daniels' health, it's hard not to say that Washington is No. 2.
Daniels and Mariota will be playing in a new offense in 2026. The Commanders promoted David Blough to offensive coordinator, which means Daniels will be under center more often, creating more opportunities to use play action as a weapon.
