The Baltimore Ravens are reportedly adding another quarterback to their roster and that isn’t great news for Diego Pavia.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Ravens are signing veteran signal-caller Skylar Thompson to their offseason roster.
Rapoport notes that the Ravens will “likely” carry five quarterbacks “for the time being,” so there’s no guarantee this will continue and one or more could get cut at any time.
“The Ravens are expected to sign veteran QB Skylar Thompson, source said, and Baltimore will likely carry 5 QBs for the time being,” Rapoport reported.
Along with Thompson and Pavia, the Ravens have Lamar Jackson, Tyler Huntley and undrafted free-agent signing and former UConn quarterback, Joe Fagnano.
Jackson is, of course, the Ravens’ locked-in starter, and Huntley is cemented as his No. 2.
ESPN’s Jamison Hensley adds that Ravens head coach Jesse Minter said the Ravens “could carry three to five QBs” on the offseason roster, so Baltimore might look to cut as many as two of the five they have.
“On Saturday, Ravens coach Jesse Minter said the team could carry three to five QBs this offseason and mentioned Baltimore could look at some veteran QBs,” Hensley said.

We already talked about the possibility that the Ravens could cut one or two of their five rostered quarterbacks.
The reason this signing is especially bad news for Pavia is because Thompson is experienced and that gives him a major leg up to stick over the former Vanderbilt star if the Ravens are forced to decide between Pavia, Fagnano and Thompson.
Thompson has appeared in 10 games during his career, making two starts. He has completed 58.7% of his passes for 721 yards and one touchdown to three picks.
Truth be told, the deck was already stacked against Pavia not just making the 53-man roster, but simply sticking with Baltimore throughout the offseason.
But without Thompson around, he at least had a better chance than Fagnano, as Pavia’s skill set more closely mirrors Jackson’s and Huntley’s, which Hensley said made him a better fit inside Baltimore’s quarterback room.
Pavia recently took part in the Ravens’ rookie minicamp after signing an undrafted free-agent deal with Baltimore.
It has been days since the Ravens’ concluded their rookie minicamp and Pavia hasn’t been cut, which is a good sign for him.
