Detroit's new PWHL team might not have a name, but it now has its first player.
PWHL Detroit announced on Friday, June 5 that forward Daryl Watts has been added to the team's roster as its first ever player.
Watts joins the team on what is called a "Expansion Foundational Offer," and signed a four-year deal to play in Detroit ahead of the team's first season in 20226-27.
According to a release from the PWHL, Watts is the first of five players that will be added to the team’s roster during Phase 2 of the PWHL’s Expansion Roster Distribution Process. Each expansion team was given one EFO to go after a player on an expiring PWHL contract. Players who received an EFO were allowed to pick the length of their contract, ranging from one to four years.

Watts, 27, played the last two seasons with the Toronto Sceptres and is one of best players in the young league's history, ranking second all-time in goals (32) and tied for third in points (63).
She played college hockey for Wisconsin and Boston College and made her Olympic debut earlier this year for Team Canada, scoring two goals and adding six assists en route to a silver medal.
In May, the Detroit expansion team named Josh Sciba as its first head coach, while Manon Rheaume was named as the general manager on May 15.
The team will play at Little Caesars Arena, starting in late November or early December.
