Jacksonville Jaguars' defensive lineman Dawuane Smoot is set to be a free agent this upcoming offseason.

So what might his next contract look like, and will the Jaguars re-sign him?

Dawuane Smoot contract projection

According to Spotrac, Smoot is projected to earn a one-year deal worth $1.469 million. Smoot will turn 32 years old this offseason.

In terms of player age, contract status, and statistical production, Jalyn Holmes, LJ Collier, and Jihad Ward were used by Spotrac as comparisons to determine what Smoot's deal could be.

Will the Jaguars re-sign Dawuane Smoot?

After spending the 2024 season in Buffalo, Smoot returned to Jacksonville this past season and played a key role along the defensive line.

He provided Anthony Campanile with a versatile presence up front, lining up at defensive end and in the B-gap regularly and everywhere in between.

Smoot finished the season recording 19 pressures and two sacks, while making 21 tackles in the run game, according to PFF.

At that contract amount, bringing Smoot back makes plenty of sense. He was a regular rotational member of the defensive front, can fill a variety of roles, while depth at both defensive end and defensive tackle is needed this offseason.

If the Jaguars want to get younger up front, going in a different direction with 11 draft picks could be in play. However, at this time, there are a number of reasons why bringing Smoot back makes sense.
