Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts spoke about the team going to the White House to celebrate their 2025 World Series win.
Roberts, who has previously echoed the need to uphold the tradition of teams visiting the White House after winning a title, was asked about the team’s decision to visit the White House at a time when a divisive administration is in power.
“I’m not a politician,” Roberts said. “I’m doing something that teams have done for decades. That’s where I stand, really. I’m a baseball coach. That’s what I do.”
According to the Dodgers manager, the decision to attend the visit is entirely optional and up to each player.

The Dodgers went in 2021, when President Joe Biden was in power, to celebrate the end of their World Series drought.
“I hope that we get this invitation every year,” Roberts said. “Because that’s the goal, to win a championship, to get this invitation to the White House.”
Additionally, the Dodgers went in 2025 to celebrate their 2024 title, this time when President Donald Trump was in power.

The team has maintained that they will do their best to go, though in the middle of a baseball season, things can be tricky to arrange.
They had a road trip against the Washington Nationals, though the team could not find a window.
Instead, the visit has been finalized for July 23, on an off day of their road trip to New York and Philadelphia right after the All-Star break.
“I think there was a lot of unknown. Then we got word, I mean, yesterday or two days ago, that it was official,” the skipper explained.
“So then it was kind of [figuring out] how could we work this out logistically? A lot of phone calls, texts and communication internally.”
Already, **** Hernandez has announced he will not attend the meeting, citing his rehab as the reason for his absence.
