It won't be long before the Philadelphia Eagles take the field to host the San Francisco 49ers. The Wild Card Round figures to provide plenty of fireworks. Nick Sirianni and Kyle Shanahan are no doubt making last-minute adjustments.
The home team's goal is to have all hands on deck for this one. A practice window was activated for Azeez Ojulari. That's good news. It was also encouraging to see Lane Johnson and Nakobe Dean practice on Wednesday.
The 49ers are undermanned, especially on defense. That's unfortunate for San Francisco, but that isn't Philadelphia's problem. That gives Coach Sirianni's team an advantage.
This one has gotten its fair share of discussion, as you might expect. It features FOX's top broadcast team, including Kevin Burkhardt, Tom Brady, Erin Andrews, and Tom Rinaldi.
The national media is busy breaking down every detail. That includes ESPN's NFL Live crew.
Games like these always come down to matchups. How about two chess matches at the coaching level? Everyone is interested in Kyle Shanahan vs. Vic Fangio, but winning also hinges on Nick Sirianni and Kevin Patullo cracking Robert Saleh's defensive code.
Will Jalen Hurts run the ball? Will Patullo end the conservative approach? Will the Eagles' offense give us heavier dosages of Tabk Bigsby?
Forget all that. ESPN's Dan Orlovsky introduces another key ingredient: A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith as run blockers.
Orlovsky makes a great point. Brown and Smith have been truly unselfish, sacrificing personal stats for the good of the team. Yes, we realize this is a shock to the system of all of you A.J. Brown haters. Yes, the guy in the Number 11 jersey has played unselfishly.
As much as they'll be needed in the running game, however, they'll be needed to do the job that made both of them millionaires. Here's a game where Jalen Hurts can truly take advantage of the opponent through the air. If successful, Philadelphia should have a relatively easy time here and advance to the NFC Divisional Round.
