The Pittsburgh Penguins suffered a 5-1 blowout loss to the Buffalo Sabres at home on Thursday.

Not even a minute into the second period, Penguins star forward Evgeni Malkin was ejected from the game for slashing Rasmus Dahlin to the face. It was an emotional moment, and Muse felt like the team lost its focus at the time, when the game was tied 1-1.

“We’ve got to control what we can control,” Dan Muse said postgame on Thursday. “There’s going to be games where things don’t go our way. I thought that was the case for some different factors tonight, and we got to make sure that we’re focusing in and staying level.”

The Penguins have now lost back-to-back games, and Muse said he wants the team to be pissed off and turn the page quickly.

Pittsburgh is firmly in the playoff mix, and Muse knows the team can’t let this spiral even further.

“You get home, you get some sleep, and we get to the rink tomorrow,” Muse added. “We have to look at ways that we can be better, and we have to quickly turn the page, and we have to be ready for this next game.

“That’s where we’re at. I think an important part is you don’t let things continue to build. I’d say the same thing if we had a game that we really liked. You’ve got to be ready for the next one, because these are all turning fast.”

With the loss, the Penguins are now 31-17-3 and holding onto the second spot in the Metro division.
