Damien Perrinelle set to be named Red Star manager

Former AS Monaco assistant manager Damien Perrinelle is set to take charge at Ligue 2 side Red Star, L’Équipe understands.

Perrinelle, who previously managed Monaco’s academy side, was integrated into the first-team set-up under Adi Hutter. He remained there last season, despite the Austrian’s departure, and was an important part of Sébastien Pocognoli’s staff.

However, at the end of the season, it was announced that Perrinelle would leave. Despite the Principality club’s desire to retain Perrinelle, the Frenchman wished to become a first-team manager. His exit was officialised in May.

Speaking to RMC Sport, he hypothesised taking charge of a Ligue 2 club and an excellent opportunity quickly arose. Grégory Poirier left Red Star at the end of the season, having led the club to the Ligue 1 promotion/ relegation play-offs.

Perrinelle is now set to replace Poirier, L’Équipe understands, in what will be the former Clermont Foot and New York Red Bulls defender’s first position as first-team coach.
