San Francisco Giants starter Logan Webb plunked Los Angeles Dodgers catcher Dalton Rushing following an incident in Tuesday’s series opener.
Rushing went viral after the first game of the series, during which he played catcher, after tagging Giants outfielder Jung Hoo Lee at the plate. Lee looked injured at the end of the play and Rushing, while walking back to the dugout, shrugged and appeared to say “F**k ’em.”
The clip obviously went viral, and prompted a response from the Giants.
Webb retaliated in the sixth inning of Thursday’s game, placing a 93 mph fastball in Rushing’s ribs. Rushing appeared upset after the incident, throwing his bat to the ground. Afterwards, Rushing went into a hard slide at second in an attempt to break up a double play.
The catcher ultimately got the last laugh, recording an RBI which made the difference in the game as the Dodgers won 3-0.

Is Dalton Rushing MLB’s Newest “Villain”?
Tuesday’s exchange isn’t the only time Rushing has made headlines in the last week for an inflammatory comment, though. After the Dodgers’ first of two losses to the Colorado Rockies over the weekend, Rushing made the following comments.
“I think it’s odd that some of those hitters that do what they do, they go up there and they’re on the first pitch that was thrown,” Rushing said. “It’s a little fishy, but I’ll wear it.”
“I think it could have been a little bit of both sides. I think they had a good game plan as an opposing team, and maybe I pitched into their game plan as far as calling pitches. I’m not 100 percent sure.”
Manager Dave Roberts didn’t agree with Rushing’s comments, and made sure to make his opinion on the matter clear afterwards.
“I saw some bad breaking balls,” Roberts said. “So, I don’t think there was anything fishy behind it. I think there were some bad pitches.”
Despite that, though, users on X—formerly Twitter—took exception to the comments.
“This is ridiculous. Stealing signs/picking up on tells from a pitcher has been part of the game forever lol. As long as they’re not using technology or video feeds to get that info then it’s fair game. But to automatically accuse the Rockies of all teams of cheating is a joke,” one user said.
Does Dalton Rushing’s Play Back His Words Up?
Rushing has made an enemy of several rival fans over the last week, but two factors may contribute more than anything. Firstly, he’s a Dodger, and secondly, he’s really good at baseball.
Rushing has forced the Dodgers’ hand with his recent performances, commanding more playing time in the most potent lineup in MLB. He has seven homers and 14 RBIs through 10 games, and has a 1.647 OPS following his solid performance in the series finale against the Giants.
The Dodgers are heading straight back home to face the Chicago Cubs on Friday, where Rushing will look to get some more looks during his unbelievable hot streak. Friday’s game begins Friday at 7:15 p.m. PT.
