The seventh overall pick out of the University of Oklahoma in the 2022 MLB Draft, Horton has been turning heads in Chicago's farm system. After beginning his professional career at Single-A Myrtle Beach in 2023, the right-handed hurler advanced to Triple-A Iowa by the end of 2024.

This season, Horton has been virtually untouchable for Iowa. In six starts, he's 2-1 with a 1.24 ERA and 0.86 WHIP. The 23-year-old has also punched out 33 batters, while issuing 13 walks in 29 innings. He's a career 8-6 with a 2.79 in 36 minor league starts.

The move by the Cubs to promote Horton, could be in an attempt to replace ***** Imanaga in the starting rotation. Imanaga was put on the 15-day IL on Monday with a hamstring injury. Chicago ace Justin Steele, who will miss the entire 2025 season following surgery to repair his UCL, missed a little over a month last season with a similar hamstring injury.

"I mean it's the same injury in terms of it's a hamstring injury," manager Craig Counsell told reporters Tuesday. "I think they're two different individuals. The severity's different, so we just got to take case by case. ... We're just going to progress day by day for a while."

The Cubs open a three-game set against the New York Mets (24-14) from Citi Field on Friday. Jameson Taillon and Matthew Boyd are scheduled to take the hill Friday and Sunday, respectively, potentially leaving Saturday open for Horton to make his MLB debut.
