Cowboys-Commanders injury report: Overshown decision as 5 ruled out

The Dallas Cowboys made a decision early in the week about what they were going to do at left tackle. With starter Tyler Guyton set to miss his fourth game in a row, the club moved now three-time Pro Bowl left guard Tyler Smith out to the position he played his rookie season. After their Week 16 contest, the team declared the move would be permanent for the final two games of 2025.

There's plenty of debate raging on whether or not this is the best move for the club, considering Smith has made it clear over the years he prefers to play inside. Meanwhile, a player who simply prefers to play is once again the center of attention when it comes to the Week 17 injury report. Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown, who missed the first half of the season recovering from an ACL tear that ended his 2024, is back on the injury report. Overshown suffered a concussion during that Week 16 game, and the short week turnaround to Thursday's kickoff did not bode well.

As expected, Overshown will not be playing in this contest as he and Guyton are two of five players who were ruled out on Wednesday. The other three aren't actually on the Cowboys active roster. RB Phil Mafah, DE Payton Turner and CB Josh Butler are all respectively on injured lists and are still in their 21-day practice window.

It's allowed all three to get some run on the practice field even if they aren't going to be playing this week. Perhaps they will get some time in the season finale, Week 18 against the New York Giants.

The Cowboys did not rule out WR Ryan Flournoy, who suffered a knee injury last week, not did they rule out DT Quinnen Williams. Williams was a late scratch for Week 16 with a neck injury. He was named to the Pro Bowl this week, as one of 5 Cowboys to make the all-star team.

As for the game against Washington, fans are still waiting for the Commanders' final injury report to be announced, but for now here's Dallas'.
