With training camps set to begin across the NFL, former Los Angeles Chargers star Joey Bosa remains one of the biggest names available on the open market. While some around the league believe his playing career may be over, the Minnesota Vikings could be one of the few teams with both the financial flexibility and roster need to make a compelling pitch.

According to Over the Cap, the Vikings currently have approximately $13.1 million in available salary cap space, giving new general manager Nolan Teasley enough room to explore a veteran addition should the organization feel it needs more pass-rushing depth before the start of the regular season.

ESPN's Adam Schefter recently suggested it is "more likely than not" that Bosa has already played his final NFL snap, though he acknowledged the right opportunity could still entice the five-time Pro Bowler to return.

"If a situation came along that entices him enough to come out and play again, absolutely,"Schefter said, while noting that several expected landing spots have already passed without a deal.

The Vikings may not have been viewed as an obvious destination earlier this offseason, but their current edge-rushing situation makes them an intriguing fit.

Minnesota has a fairly solid pass rush duo in veteran Andrew Van Ginkel and 2024 first-round pick Dallas Turner, who is expected to take on a significantly larger role in his second season. However, the depth behind those two remains relatively unproven following the organization's decision to move on from Jonathan Greenard during the second day of the NFL Draft.

That lack of experienced depth could leave the door open for a veteran signing if the Vikings determine another proven pass rusher is necessary for a team with playoff aspirations.

Even with injuries limiting him over the latter stages of his career, Bosa's résumé speaks for itself. The former No. 3 overall pick earned Defensive Rookie of the Year honors after entering the league in 2016 and developed into one of the NFL's premier edge defenders during his time with the Bolts.

Bosa finished his Chargers career as a five-time Pro Bowler and recorded 72 career sacks, ranking second in franchise history. He also added a Pro Bowl appearance with the Buffalo Bills during his lone season with the team in 2025.

If Bosa is waiting for the right opportunity rather than simply any opportunity, Minnesota could check several boxes. The Vikings have the cap space to make a move without jeopardizing future flexibility, a competitive roster capable of making a postseason run and a defensive scheme that wouldn't require Bosa to shoulder an overwhelming workload.

Whether the Vikings have genuine interest remains unknown, but as training camp draws closer, they stand out as one of the more logical landing spots should Bosa decide he isn't ready to hang up his cleats just yet.
