The Philadelphia Eagles are expected to trade A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots in a matter of weeks. But could the Eagles receive a new pass-catcher in that deal?

Patriots wide receiver Kayshon Boutte has not been working out with the team during voluntary offseason workouts, according to a report from ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

It’s unclear why Boutte, 24, has been working out on his own. The 2023 sixth-round pick out of LSU who has had back-to-back 500-yard seasons is entering the last year of his rookie contract. Boutte not showing up could mean that he’ll be on his way out of New England.

If/when the Pats acquire Brown, they’ll have a true No. 1 target to pair with free agency signing Romeo Doubs. Brown is expected to be traded after June 1 for salary cap reasons.

In addition to Doubs and (eventually) Brown, New England also has Mack Hollins, DeMario Douglas, Kyle Williams and Efton Chism under contract.

Boutte was the Patriots’ No. 2 WR in 2025 behind Stefon Diggs, who is no longer with the team. Boutte had 33 catches for 551 yards and six touchdowns in the regular season and added 168 yards and a touchdown in four playoff games.

But if Boutte is deemed expendable, he could be sent to the Eagles in a deal for Brown.

It’s unlikely that Boutte, a sixth-rounder on an expiring contract, being included would prevent Philadelphia from securing a 2027 first-round pick for Brown. And he would add some more depth to a wide receiver room that’s been reshaped in recent months.

The Eagles drafted USC receiver Makai Lemon in the first round of the 2026 NFL draft to complement DeVonta Smith. They also traded for Packers wideout Dontayvion Wicks and signed Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore in free agency.

Without Brown, the Eagles’ top three receivers would be Smith, Lemon and Wicks with Brown and Moore (if he makes the roster) as rotational pieces.

Maybe Boutte could join them in a couple of weeks.
