Could Araujo start against Atletico? Flick offers update

Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo has been used sparingly by Hansi Flick since returning to action after taking a mental health break earlier in the season.

The defender’s only start has been in the Copa del Rey win over Albacete, with his other appearances all coming off the bench.

It seems likely that Araujo will be a substitute once again on Tuesday night against Atletico, but Hansi Flick was asked if the Uruguay international could be in his starting XI at his press conference.

“Yes, obviously. We have a team and they’re doing very well defensively,” he answered.

“Ronald, too. We’ll see if he starts; I can’t say yet because I haven’t decided on the starting eleven. I know their strengths, but I have to think about it.”

Flick won’t be able to count on Eric Garcia for this one, due to suspension, with Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin looking the most likely center-back pairing for the match.
