Michael Carter II has signed his renegotiated contract that significantly lowers his $10 million salary cap hit. Had the Eagles released the veteran cornerback, the move would have saved $8,736,000 for 2026, instead, he'll remain in Philadelphia and play on a 1-year, $2.765 million deal, with a $500K signing bonus, a $1.75 million base salary, a salary cap hit of $1.42 million, $1.45 million fully guaranteed; with 2027-2030 voidable years.
Only Howie Roseman and Vic Fangio actually know how they view the former Jets cornerback, but the deal prevents Carter II from being considered a roster lock. Back in October, Philadelphia sent John Metchie and a 2027 sixth-round pick to the New York Jets for CB Michael Carter and a 2027 7th round pick.
Carter II, a fifth-year veteran, struggled in coverage last season and was under contract through 2027. Carter signed a three-year, $30.75 million extension with the Jets through the 2027 season, and will be under Philadelphia's control for the next 2.5 years. Carter II played 106 snaps after joining the Eagles, with the most coming in Week 12 against the Cowboys (25) and in Week 18 against the Commanders (65). In those games, Carter II had a 75.5 grade from PFF.
