Like most NFL teams, the Washington Commandersrevamped their uniforms in 2026. Every team makes tweaks; some use alternates and/or throwbacks, but each year teams do something new with their uniforms. For the Commanders, they introduced the new "Hail Raiser" all-black uniforms as an alternate to pair with their Super Bowl-era uniforms.
But their regular-season uniform wasn't the only thing that saw a change this year. Previously, during practices and training camp, Commanders' quarterbacks have worn a yellow jersey that lets the roster know who the quarterback is. Every team has a separate color for quarterbacks to indicate no contact; most teams use the traditional red jerseys with white numbers, but there are other colors used depending on the team.
This year, the quarterbacks are wearing black jerseys. Jayden Daniels was asked about this by Kay Adams of the "Up and Adams" show after practice on Thursday.
"So, it was last year, when I was not playing. I've seen, usually, the non-contact guys wear black jerseys. We're (QBs) not getting hit ever, so ... I like the black jerseys. I think they look nice."
"I love them, I just didn't know what it was," Adams replied. "I like that it was your call."
"Yeah, for sure."
"So, now every time there's a uniform change and Jayden, or someone, says, 'It wasn't me, I didn't even know.' You were influencing it, you have thoughts."
"Oh, I influence that," Daniels replied.
"What do you care about?" Adams asks. "What does it do, is it like a 'look good, play good' kind of vibe?"
"For sure, you gotta look good."
We've all heard the saying, especially when looking for a new job, going on a date, or even getting ready for a big meeting: If you look good, you feel good. If you feel good, you are at peak performance. The same goes for football players on the field; if they like how they look, their performance will be at its best.
Players don't often have any say in what the uniforms look like, but it's clear that Daniels has influence in the Commanders' organization that goes beyond what he does on the field.
