Here's a couple of things to think about off the top of my head...
Pro:
~Comic books are essentially movie storyboards and as such can often transalte very well to film.
~Many comic book charaters are archetype heroes and as such capture our imagination in short amounts of time (i.e. 120 minutes).
~Fanboys flock to these movies.
Con:
~They're expensive to make.
~Some big name actors don't want to be type-cast (that's why Micheal Keaton isn't Batman anymore, and why Tom Welling and Paul Walker turned down Superman).
~Because fanboys are intimately familiar with their beloved characters, the films can fall under heavy scrutiny.
~Seems like the Hollywood instinct has leaned towards making the films "campy" instead of serious (Batman and Robin, Superman IV).
