Columbia rising senior wide receiver Kyren Caldwell committed on July 4 to Maryland football, declaring his decision over social media on Instagram.

The 6-1, 180-pound Caldwell is rated as a three-star prospect and a top-75 wideout nationwide for the 2027 class in the 247Sports composite. He is among the selections in the USA TODAY Florida Network Top 100.

A speedy downfield threat, Caldwell has started the past two seasons for Columbia at wide receiver. He caught 32 passes for 547 yards and five touchdowns as a sophomore, and increased those numbers to 48 catches for 701 yards and eight scores in 2025.

He has also competed in Florida High School Athletic Association district track and field in the 100 and 200-meter dashes, with personal-best times of 11.16 in the 100 and 22.38 in the 200.

Caldwell selected the Terrapins ahead of more than 20 offers around NCAA Division I football, including finalists Alabama and Mississippi State.

Caldwell's commitment could be the first of several in the 2027 class in Lake City, where Columbia rising senior prospects also include defensive tackles Jaden McCray and Jaylen Underwood.

Columbia is scheduled to compete in FHSAA District 3-4A for 2026 alongside Ribault, Riverside, White and Yulee.
