Colts HC Shane Steichen’s ‘on fire’ Daniel Jones take suggests he’s feeling 100% appeared first on ClutchPoints. Add ClutchPoints as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
It hasn’t even been a full year since Daniel Jones suffered a devastating Achilles tear, but you certainly wouldn’t know it by watching him at Indianapolis Colts training camp. The veteran quarterback is turning heads and lighting up the defense, flashing the exact kind of mobility and arm talent that proves he is fully back in the driver’s seat.
Following a grueling two-hour scrimmage under the lights at Grand Park, Colts head coach Shane Steichen couldn’t hide his genuine excitement about his starting signal-caller.
“We tried all the throws, we tried accuracy throws, all that stuff and he’s on fire right now,” Steichen said. “It’s awesome to see.”

Steichen isn’t just feeding the media empty preseason hype. During Thursday night’s extensive 11-on-11 sessions, Jones operated the Indianapolis offense with surgical precision. Unofficial camp stats had the gunslinger completing an incredibly efficient 20 of his 26 passing attempts. He consistently dotted up the defense, connecting on a gorgeous hole shot down the sideline to tight end Tyler Warren and later tossing a slick touchdown to reserve running back Ulysses Bentley IV.
Wide receivers Ashton Dulin and Nick Westbrook-Ikhine also got in on the action, catching lasers from Jones in tight coverage throughout the evening. Adding to the offensive firepower, freshly extended running back Jonathan Taylor ripped off multiple chunk plays on the ground and hauled in a hefty screen pass to keep the chains moving.
Yet, the biggest and most important takeaway for Indianapolis fans is that Jones is moving freely. The quarterback didn’t hesitate to take off and scramble when the pocket collapsed. He accelerated into open space and sprinted right on bootlegs, showing zero lingering effects from his season-ending injury just eight months ago.
If Jones continues to play with this elite level of timing and accuracy, the Colts are in a prime position to pick up right where their high-flying offense left off early last season. With a fully healthy quarterback who is on fire, Indianapolis is officially a dangerous threat in the AFC as the regular season rapidly approaches.
