Head coach Deion Sanders released a statement regarding the tragic passing of Ponder.

God please comfort the Ponder family, friends & Loved ones. Dom was one of my favorites! He was Loved, Respected & a Born Leader. Let’s pray for all that knew him & had the opportunity to be in his presence. Lord you’re receiving a good 1. Comfort us Lord Comfort us. #CoachPrimepic.twitter.com/2R7BAVyZ8u

It truly is tragic to see such young, flourishing lives cut short. It is especially disheartening when automotive accidents are involved.

Ponder was coming off his first season in Colorado after being recruited in the transfer portal by Sanders. He played sparingly, only registering one pass attempt and two rush attempts.

Prior to joining Sanders in Colorado, Ponder played for the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats. He was a class of 2022 recruit out of Opa Locka, FL, as a three-star recruit–playing his high school football at Miami Carol City.
