The Cleveland Browns have until Tuesday at 4:00 PM ET to make roster cuts and announce their initial 53-man roster. Some of those cuts or rumors about roster moves might leak early, though. Or, in the case of the Browns, they might announce a lot of their first round of cuts early.
All players who are released with less than four years of service must go through waivers and are eligible to be claimed by any other team until 12:00 PM ET on Wednesday. After that, any unclaimed player can be signed and teams will begin to fill out their 16-man practice squads.
Veterans with more than four years of service can sign immediately after being released.
You can also use the comments section to discuss cuts around the NFL that may be of interest to Cleveland.
Browns Roster Cuts Live Blog
Tuesday
7:38 AM: A little bit that I’m hearing about what positions the Browns might be making trade calls about is over in “The Feed.”
7:30 AM: As Chris caught yesterday, Cleveland’s initial 53-man roster is likely to be out an hour early due to their practice schedule.
Monday
7:18 PM: In a bit of a surprise, the Browns are reportedly releasing returner DeAndre Carter, but it is possible Carter returns to the practice squad or the main roster after other moves are made:
Sources: The #Browns are expected to release WR and return specialist DeAndre Carter.

6:22 PM: RB Audric Estime was a running back the Browns liked a lot coming out. I could see a claim coming here if the Titans do not add him first:

5:45 PM: The Browns will have to contend with defensive end Trey Hendrickson after the veteran reached a deal with the Cincinnati Bengals on a reworked one-year contract. Hendrickson, who has six sacks in seven career games against the Browns, will reportedly get a raise that will bump his 2025 salary to $30 million, but will still become a free agent after this year.
The Browns and Bengals open the regular season on September 7 in Cleveland.
5:36 PM: Former Cleveland wide receiver Amari Cooper is off the market as he is reportedly signing a one-year deal with the Las Vegas Raiders. It is a return for Cooper to the team that selected him in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft and where he spent his first four seasons.
Reunion: Former #Bills WR Amari Cooper, one of the NFL’s top free agents still available, is signing with the #Raiders on a 1-year deal, per source.

1:44 PM: A couple of notes this afternoon, first with another former Brown in LB Anthony Walker. Cleveland passed on him last year in favor of LB Jordan Hicks, but that didn’t end up working out. The veteran knows the system and could help bring some needed experience:
Tampa is releasing veteran LB Anthony Walker Jr., who has been on the Physically Unable to Perform List but is said to be “healthy and ready to go.”

In addition, and something else we need to consider when it comes to wide receiver and linebacker numbers, the league could still make disclipinary decisions on the likes of WR Isaiah Bond and LB Devin Bush:
#NFL still reviewing the domestic or assault cases involving #Browns RB Quinshon Judkins, WR Isaiah Bond and LB Devin Bush, even though there are no longer charges pending against Judkins or Bond. No update, spokesman Brian McCarthy tells clevelanddotcom.

10:52 AM: The Dolphins are releasing veteran nickelback Mike Hilton. Cleveland may be content with the likes of CB Myles Harden there, but it’s possible they could also look for some more experience to replace CB Martin Emerson.
Dolphins have informed veteran cornerback Mike Hilton of his release, per his agents Drew Rosenhaus and Robert Bailey.

9:40 AM: The Las Vegas Raiders are reportedly in the market for an “experienced backup quarterback” after Aidan O’Connell fractured his wrist during Saturday night’s preseason game.
With QB Aidan O'Connell fracturing his wrist and being sidelined 6-8 weeks, Raiders HC Pete Carroll said the team now is in the market for a backup QB and it is looking for “an experienced player who can help us.”

As luck would have it, the Browns happen to have one of those on hand in Kenny Pickett. Would the Raiders be interested? Would the Browns be willing to trade Pickett and roll into the season with rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders backing up Joe Flacco? This could be one to follow as teams work to set their initial 53-man roster.

Sunday
4:18 PM: After his poor performance against Cleveland last week, it’s no surprise that the Eagles are releasing QB Dorian Thompson-Robinson.
In other former Browns news, the Rams have waived LB Tony Fields.

4:15 PM: In case you missed it, I (Chris Pokorny) posted my annual 53-man roster projection on Saturday. So far, a cornerback is the only player I’ve missed out on, but we’ll see how I do on the rest of the projection.
4:08 PM: I didn’t even get a chance to welcome everyone to the live blog, as the Browns were quick to make the announcement below, basically 24 hours after their final preseason game concluded.
The 21 moves bring the Browns’ roster from 90 players to 69 players. However, three of those remaining players (QB Deshaun Watson, WR David Bell, and DT Michael Hall) are projected to begin on the PUP or NFI lists, which means it’s more like 66 players remaining. That would leave 13 cuts remaining to get down to 53 players.
The initial moves weren’t too much of a surprise; maybe CB Tony Brown, but it’s not a shocker by any stretch.
4:00 PM: The Browns got started early with their roster cuts, terminating four veterans and waiving 17 other players:
Browns officially released T Jackson Barton, CB Tony Brown II, QB Tyler Huntley and S Nik Needham.
They waived 17 players:
