Oregon’s favorite college football rivalry is back.
Soon, at least.
Oregon State University and the University of Oregon announced May 26 that the historic rivalry football game, commonly referred to as the Civil War, will return in the fall of 2028.
The announcement, which flooded social media in the early afternoon Tuesday, cemented four future matchups.
Oregon State will host Oregon at Reser Stadium in Corvallis Sept. 16, 2028 then again Sept. 11, 2032. Oregon will host Oregon State at Autzen Stadium in Eugene Sept. 15, 2029 and again Aug. 30, 2031.
There are no meetings between the two in 2026 or 2027. It's the first two-year stretch without a game since the inaugural rivalry match in 1894.
The rivalry returns after the 2025 rendition was the last officially scheduled meeting. Oregon won that matchup 41-7 win in Eugene and many believed that was the nail in the coffin for the historic rivalry.
And with Oregon's commitment to the Big Ten and midwestern football and Oregon State's transition from Pac-12, to independent, to Pac-12 once again, the rivalry's future was left in jeopardy.
But the Beavers and the Ducks showed fans that local competition is still a priority by stamping four early-season meetings on the calendar.
Oregon State and Oregon have faced off 129 times dating back to 1894; it's college football's second most-played rivalry at the FBS level. According to Oregon football's archives, the Ducks have 69 wins to the Beavers' 51, and there have been 10 ties.
Oregon has won each of the last three and seven of the last 10.
