The U.S. men's national team suffered several brutal blows during its round-of-16 matchup against Belgium. However, after rallying from a 1-0 deficit, the USMNT fell behind again, 2-1 shortly after, and an apparent injury to USMNT star Christian Pulisic may have been the ultimate blow early in the second half.
After going down, it appeared Pulisic wasn't 100%, and that led to him being subbed off less than 15 minutes into the second half.
Pulisic walked off the field when his number was called for a substitution and was visibly limping and uncomfortable as he left. When he reached the sidelines, the USMNT leader was seen with his head in his hands, undeniably emotional.
Although the severity of Pulisic's injury is unknown, it's at least a good sign that he was able to get off the field himself. However, he appeared far less than 100% on the field leading up to the substitution. He didn't receive medical attention immediately, which suggests the injury may not be overly severe, but we'll have to await any official word from the team.
This comes just roughly one and a half games after Pulisic returned from the calf injury he suffered in the team's 2026 World Cup opener against Paraguay. He missed the second half of that game and the full second game against Australia. Pulisic made his official return after halftime of the third and final group stage game against Turkey.
