According to a report from ESPN's Adam Schefter, the Kansas City Chiefs are releasing veteran right tackle Jawaan Taylor before the start of the league year, barring a trade.

The 28-year-old was in year three of a four-year, $80 million contract he signed in 2023. During the 2024 season, he battled through a partially torn meniscus that severely impacted his effectiveness on the offensive line. He had struggled with penalties throughout his tenure with the Chiefs, leading to constant criticism from fans and analysts.

Taylor appeared in 12 regular-season games but battled injuries again in 2025. A severe elbow/triceps injury cost him multiple weeks of the season. The Chiefs released veteran defensive end Mike Danna last week for salary-cap reasons, sparking speculation that Taylor wouldn't be far behind. Patrick Mahomes' contract was also restructured for cap relief as the new league year is days away.

Kansas City will have more flexibility following these releases as it heads into free agency with the intent to revamp the roster ahead of the 2026 season.
