Chiefs fans’ belief in the UDFAs

With more time for Chiefs fans to vote, the wide receiver position is currently the favorite to produce a 53-man roster addition among the 20 undrafted free agents Kansas City signed after the draft, although that number increased to 22 after three tryout players were signed, and one initial signing was waived: Iowa edge defender Ethan Hurkett.

The receivers that make up this year’s class of undrafted signings:

  • Jeff Caldwell, Cincinnati
  • Jacob De Jesus, California
  • Omari Evans, Washington
  • Xavier Loyd, Missouri (signed Monday)

Let’s be real all KC Chiefs fans want this and this alone! SB for the next 5 years lol

Caldwell, De Jesus, Evans = Calvin “Megatron” Johnson Jr.

Caldwell would probably make it to the PS since he wasn’t drafted, and claiming off waivers requires a roster spot, but I think he makes the team anyway. There’s no other big body WR behind Thornton. Andy has a way of scheming for limited players as long as they’re athletic, see: Hardman. I think Caldwell could see playing time early on screens and in the red zone.

Omari Evans might be an underrated asset

I think Safety and WR are neck and neck for this UDFA free for all. I think Singleton and Nwamkpa can contribute to this room early on if they need to, but so can Caldwell as a KR

By reporters. I’ve seen Loyd get shout outs from Jessie Newell and Matt Derrick, pretty much where most of the info about how rookie camp went came from.

Team reporter Matt McMullen shouted him out on Saturday too.

It will be interesting to see Caldwell in camp. I know, we all fell for the Justyn Ross hype, Justyn Ross had his best colle season with Trevor Lawrence, Justyn Ross had major medical concerns, the list goes on and on.

Hopefully Caldwell can learn under [O’Shea’s] guidance and go from raw and athletic to meaningful contributor, even if in a limited role.

Hard not to get excited when you have an athletic specimen, no matter how unpolished.

And if highly-touted Caldwell doesn’t work out, Jared Sapp put it best:

We survived Justyn Ross not turning into a superstar. We are tough and can make it through anything
