Chelsea looking towards Real Madrid for Marc Cucurella replacement originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
One of the bigger moves to go down in the early stages of the Summer transfer window has been that of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid, with Los Blancos acquiring the Spaniard for €60 million.
This has left the Blues with a massive hole in their backline, given that Cucurella was quite the perennial figure for the various Chelsea managers over the course of his six-season stint at Stamford Bridge, amassing 163 appearances for the West London club.

According to a recent report, the Blues could be looking back at Los Blancos for the Spaniard's replacement, with Álvaro Carreras being the subject of their gaze, as said by Turkish journalist Ekrem Konur.
Carreras would be a perfect fit for Chelsea if they were to land the move, given that he has managed to be a threat on both ends for the Madridistas during his breakout season with them, getting five goal involvements, along with recording 49 interceptions and winning out on 33 tackles across his 40 appearances with the Spanish giants.
These numbers were fairly consistent with what the Spaniard was producing during his time with Benfica in the Portuguese top flight, a league in which he'd spend two seasons following a move from La Liga outfit Granada.
A move to London wouldn't be the first time that Carreras has been present in the English football pyramid, having spent four seasons at Old Trafford with Manchester United earlier in his career, and having also received experience at then-Championship outfit Preston North End.
It wouldn't just be a return to England for the Spaniard, but also a return to a team managed by Xabi Alonso, who he played under for a brief stint last season before Los Blancos parted ways with the club legend in the middle of the year.
The potential move to the Premier League for the Spanish defender will be something to look out for in the coming months as the Summer transfer window goes on by the day.
