If we're going based on Summer League, there's no debate that Chicago Bulls forward and former North Carolina star Caleb Wilson was the best rookie there.
Outside of maybe Brayden Burries of the Milwaukee Bucks, Wilson had the most impressive showing, and there's something to be said about that. While it was an important step in Wilson's career and gave a lot of Bulls fans hope, something they've been searching for over the past few decades, it ultimately doesn't mean that he's going to be better than any of the other top three prospects in this class in AJ Dybantsa, Darryn Peterson, or Cameron Boozer.
At the end of the day, that's all going to be figured out by what he does in regular-season and playoff games throughout his career.
That hasn't stopped others from suggesting that he's the best player in the class, however, including Charles Barkley, who had some big praise for the hopeful future star.
“I think the Chicago Bulls got the best rookie in the NBA. When I was talking to coaches and general managers, they are like, 'Who would you take with the No. 1 pick?' I said, 'Caleb Wilson.' They are like, 'What do you mean?' I said, 'I like (AJ) Dybantsa. I like (Darryn) Peterson. There was no player I would have taken before Caleb Wilson.
“Not one.' Peterson and Dybantsa are probably better scorers at this stage, but he can learn how to shoot. Let me tell you something: From an athletic point, he can guard one, two, three, four. Ain't nobody more talented than Caleb Wilson. Period,” Barkley said, per Rookie Wire.
I've been on record many times stating that I think Wilson has a real opportunity to at least be the second-best player in this class. I have a feeling that Peterson is going to be among the elite of the elite in NBA history, as I absolutely love his game.
Dybantsa and Boozer are also great players in their own right, but it feels like Wilson has a different type of upside that teams really can't teach. The Bulls look to have gotten a really good player, but only time will tell on that front, as he still has a lot more to prove.
