Chargers named landing spot for 3-time Pro Bowler originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
The Los Angeles Chargers' offseason has baffled the fan base, with the franchise having funds to spend, but so far, choosing not to go and get key difference-makers.
Well, that might change now.
With reports that New York Giants defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence II has requested a trade due to a failure to agree to a long-term deal, it now appears Lawrence wants a change of scenery.
Either that, or he wants to push these negotiations into overdrive.
Either way, there will be a market for him, and Sports Illustrated's Mike Kadlick has named the Chargers as a potential landing spot.
“Bolstered with the likes of Teair Tart, Tuli Tuipulotu and Khalil Mack off the edge, Los Angeles’s front seven could still use some beef in the middle,” Kadlick wrote. “After the departure of coordinator Jesse Minter to Baltimore, the Chargers will turn to Chris O'Leary to call their defense in 2026—and while they did sign NT Dalvin Tomlinson to a modest one-year, $6.2 million deal last month, Lawrence would bring a true, game-changing presence to the spine of their defensive line.”

Is defense what L.A. needs?
It's not a pressing need, no, but when a player like Lawrence potentially becomes available, you do what you can to get him through the doors.
Yes, the offense for Justin Herbert needs more, with his offensive line and skill-positions needing reinforcements, but Dexter along that defensive line will give the Chargers some serious quarterback-hunting juice.
The exact price is unknown, but it won't be cheap.
The Chargers have the cap space for a move of this magnitude, so time will tell if the AFC West franchise sees this as a viable option.
