Winton Woods graduate Chance Gray scored her first points in the Women’s National Basketball Association May 13.
Gray, who plays for the Los Angeles Sparks, had one basket in 16 minutes off the bench as the Sparks lost 87-78 to the Indiana Fever.
Her father, Carlton Gray, a former NFL player who is Winton Woods head girls basketball coach, posted the milestone on X. He shared a highlight of her first basket posted by the Sparks and posted, “Congratulations on your first WNBA points @chancegrayy. Just keep striving to be your best.”
Princeton grad and WNBA star Kelsey Mitchell had 23 points for the Fever. Caitlin Clark posted 24 points and nine assists.
The Sparks picked Gray as the No. 24 overall pick out of Ohio State. She started 35 games for Ohio State this past season, averaging 14.7 points a game.
The 2022 Winton Woods graduate spent two seasons at Ohio State after playing at Oregon for her freshman and sophomore campaigns.
Gray became the 21st Buckeye to be taken in the WNBA draft. The Sparks drafted South Carolina's Ta'Niya Latson with the No. 20 pick and Kentucky's Amelia Hassett with the No. 35 selection. The Sparks went 21-23 in 2025, failing to qualify for the postseason.
