Celtics not expected to trade Jaylen Brown, unless it involves Giannis Antetokounmpo originally appeared on The Sporting News. Add The Sporting News as a Preferred Source by clicking here.
There have been rumors that the Boston Celtics could move on from star Jaylen Brown, though it wouldn't make much sense. While I understand that some Celtics fans grew a bit frustrated with Brown after his tough first-round performance against the Philadelphia 76ers, it's still important to recognize what he's done throughout much of his career.
Brown is an NBA champion, Finals MVP, and a great second star next to Jayson Tatum.
Still, this is Boston, and when things don't go as planned, which we can confidently say after the Celtics were knocked out in the first round, there are always going to be questions about what the future of an organization looks like.
Unfortunately for Brown, that's stuff he's going to have to deal with now.
However, according to the latest report, it doesn't seem very likely that a trade will happen unless it's for Giannis Antetokounmpo.
“The chatter around Brown has cooled, which is what you’d expect. The feeling is that he probably only is moved if Boston wants to bring in Giannis Antetokounmpo in a wider deal,” Sean Deveney of Heavy reported.
A trade for Antetokounmpo would shock the NBA world, as the Milwaukee Bucks moving him to the Celtics would bring a lot of questions for their own organization.
If the Celtics could land Antetokounmpo, trading Brown would make sense. For most other players, I’d say they should pass.
