After a successful season, the Boston Celtics have returned to the NBA playoffs, hoping to win the title of back-to-back champions. However, one player is also looking for another title.
On Sunday evening, the NBA announced the finalists for its regular season awards, and Celtics guard Payton Pritchard is one of three finalists for Sixth Man of the Year. The award celebrates the NBA's most valuable player from the bench, making him the "sixth man" after the five starting players on the court. If Pritchard wins, it will be his first NBA award.

Pritchard, a 27-year-old point guard from Oregon, was drafted to the Celtics in the first round of the 2020 NBA Draft. Before joining the NBA, Pritchard played basketball at the University of Oregon, where he became a 13-time first team All American and the first player in Oregon history to be named the Bob Cousy Point Guard of the Year.
Though Pritchard was drafted in 2020, he spent a lot of time on the bench during his first few years. However, he showed himself as a key player during the 2023-24 playoffs, rising to popularity after hitting not one, but two half-court shots at the buzzer.
Pritchard has continued to prove himself as a valuable player this year, coming off the bench to play in every game of the 2024-25 season.
