When an umpire has as many calls challenged as CB Bucknor on Saturday, and loses as many of those challenges as Bucknor loss, you can deduce he probably didn't have the greatest game behind the plate.
That was exactly the case for Bucknor, who had his calls challenged eight times in the game between the Cincinnati Reds and Boston Red Sox, with six of them overturned. Including one embarrassing sequence where Eugenio Suarez used MLB’s new ABS system to challenge Bucknor on back-to-back pitches that would've resulted in strikeouts -- and had both overturned.
His umpire scorecard confirmed what ABS told us. Bucknor's overall accuracy on the day was 88 percent, falling 5.5 percent below the expected 94 percent.
While his accuracy was solid on called balls, he was only at 72 percent on called strikes.
