NEWBURGH — Michael Fauerbach has stepped down as the Castle High School girls soccer coach.
The move was confirmed by school administration on Saturday, July 25 stating Fauerbach resigned the previous day. He will remain a teacher at the high school. Fauerbach sent the following statement to the Courier & Press.

"I decided that I needed to spend more time with my family," he said. "I have three kids under six and I was missing more of their lives than I wanted to. The timing wasn't great, but the staff in place is well prepared to take over where I left off."
The change at one of the prominent girls soccer programs in Southwestern Indiana comes with only three weeks until the start of the 2026 season.
Official practices in Indiana start on Aug. 3 with the Knights scheduled to host Terre Haute South less than two weeks later. Fauerbach, who coached the Central boys prior to arriving at Castle, went 41-12-3 across three seasons with two sectional championships and two Southern Indiana Athletic Conference titles. The Knights reached the regional final each his first two years.
The school didn't say who would be the interim coach beyond "assistant coaches are taking over for now." The Knights are projected to be among the SIAC contenders once again depsite graduating a trio of all-conference players. Castle went 9-7-1 last season and lost in the Class 3A sectional opener.
The program is second in SIAC history with eight conference titles and third with 15 sectionals.
