Carrick on Bruno’s influence and impressive Man United
Michael Carrick praised Bruno Fernandes’ influence on Manchester United after he broke the Premier League assists record.
The Portugal international recorded his 21st assist of the season, surpassing Kevin de Bruyne and Thierry Henry’s record of most assists in one Premier League season.
Carrick was asked whether the midfielder will still be at the club next season.
“Yes, he’s such an influence for us,” he answered. “He’s been the captain and led by example in different ways, so I’ve got no reason to think otherwise.
“We’ve loved what he’s done and he loves being here.I think you can see that. He wanted to stay on. He wants to stay on every single game because he’s enjoying his football, which is fantastic.”
United beat Brighton 3-0 in their final match of the season and his first match as permanent boss, Carrick reflected on a good year for the club.
“It has been a big moment this week for us,” he said. “We just keep pushing and keep working. I think we have done since the start, I’ve said it to you all along really.
“There’s work to do, we’ve got to keep improving, we want to be a little bit better, but it’s so, so encouraging doing it from this place.
|Sharing that moment with the supporters again at the end is important for us because that’s why we’re here, that’s why it drives us on and getting younger players on the pitch and giving them opportunities is what we are at this club. So, there’s so many positives today and we can take that moving forward.”
