here's a cut-&-paste from azcentral.com

http://www.azcentral.com/sports/cardinals/0401cardsnb0401.html

The Cardinals appear to be in a two-way race with Kansas City for free-agent defensive end Vonnie Holliday. Interest from Seattle and Philadelphia has cooled. The Cardinals offered $25 million over six years. Holliday is to visit Kansas City today. He could make a decision by week's end.

I think I've made my feelings on this kind of ludicrous offer for Holliday perfectly clear in other threads.

I have resolved myself to the fact that this is the guy that the Cardinals want, they have the money to spend, and regardless of how I feel about his contract I will root him and his teammates as hard as I always have.

6yrs 25m isn't crazy money....that is roughly 4m/season.

The problem will be the stucture.

Will it be 4.15/yr for 6yrs? That is ridiculous...can we have a little cost of living increase?

3, 3.5, 4, 4.5, 5, 5 ?

Then there is the sigining bonus. He is young but also injury proned...and this is a long term deal. 4-6m is probably what it will end up being. Since the Cards don't use calculators, it will probably be 6m SB and 19m over 6yrs or 3.15/yr. Straight line cap hit of 4.15/yr.

Why not save a little up front....if he conitnues to get injured, the cap hit works itself out with higher salaries later. 31 NFL teams are doing it....and we are the smart ones?

initial reports were that they were offering $4 mil per year salary with a $4 mil signing bonus..$24 mil for 5 years...now it is supposed to be a 6 year deal and the $4 mil per year with $4 mil signing bonus does not equal $26 mil (equals $28 mil)..but I would assume the basic structure of a reasonable singing bonus and a relatively flat salary for the term is still inact..

I haven't heard much about Jamir Miller and how he might fit into our plans. Yes, I know he's coming off a major injury, but I'd rather risk 4 million a year on him than on Holliday - more upside IMO. Of course, he's have to want to come back and play for us. Hey, isn't that part of the reason we signed Emmit? Hmmmm . . .

Not to single you out specifically.....

WE WILL NOT SIGN JAMIR MILLER. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN, THE TEAM WOULD NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT IT, JAMIR WOULDN'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT!

....THE NEXT PERSON WHO BRINGS THIS UP WILL BE HIT OVER THE HEAD WITH A TROUT! :D

Hey, what about Jamir Miller? I bet we could sign him and Mark Smith for that much cash! I think that they would both be a good fit here.

And we can coax Wadsworth and Erica out of retirement :)

While we're at it, lets go after Tom Knight

No offense taken.

Just don't let it happen again . . . or I'll start a thread where I'll ask for us to bring Plummer back, and Pittman.

Nope...I just heard that seattle re-signed him to a 10 year 100 million dollar contract to make him a Hag for life. :(

What about Bill Goldberg

We could alway sign Bill Goldberg to be our nose tackle, he looks in good shape after tackling the Rock last night and I bet he would be cheaper than Holliday.
