CAN 2027: The road to the group stage is about to begin

The countdown to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations officially kicks off this Tuesday, January 13, with the preliminary round draw broadcast live on CAF TV at 12:00 GMT.

While the 35th edition is still in full swing in Morocco, the 36th tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania. But before that, the 12 lowest-ranked teams in the FIFA rankings will battle it out in the preliminary round for six coveted spots in the group stage. They will then join the 42 teams already qualified for the group stage of the qualifiers.

The journey to AFCON 2027 officially begins tomorrow as the Preliminary Round draw goes live on CAF TV at 13h00 local time (12h00 GMT / 14h00 Cairo).

The tournament will be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.
