CAN 2025: Algeria takes the lead in Group E
At the end of the opening matchday of CAN 2025, Algeria takes the lead in Group E thanks to their emphatic win over Sudan. With three points, a favorable goal difference (+3), and a clean sheet, the Fennecs are ahead of Burkina Faso, who also won but were less prolific.
Trailing behind, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan are at the bottom after their opening defeats. This victory puts Algeria in an ideal position for the rest of the group stage, although there's still room for improvement in their performance.

On an individual note, Riyad Mahrez is also making history: with 8 goals, he becomes the all-time top Algerian scorer in the Africa Cup of Nations (CAN).
