The 2015 season was a big year for Cam Newton. It was a breakout year for him.

Newton was named NFL MVP and was leading the Carolina Panthers to Super Bowl 50 against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

The Panthers were heavy favorites in this game, and it was supposed to be Newton's coronation as the next great NFL quarterback, but the Broncos' defense had other ideas.

They stuffed the Panthers' offense all night, but it was one play in particular that defined that whole game, and that was the fumble.

Newton was trying to get his team back in the game, and as he was trying to roll out, he fumbled the ball, but that wasn’t all.

When Newton fumbled, he didn’t jump on the ball. The talk the next day wasn’t about how dominant the Broncos were; it was about his fumble.

Fans and NFL commentators across the board crucified Newton. It all but ended his promising career, and he knew it.

During a recent interview, Newton called the incident “traumatic.”

“I dropped the ball, and I hesitated. I was like, I’m not going to jump on the ball, “ he said.

The interviewer asked him why not?

Newton admitted that he was scared. That was essentially the end of his career. Once seen as the future of the NFL, that play all but ended it.

Although he’d play a few more years in the NFL, that play ended up defining his whole career.
