There’s nothing better in sports than a Game 7 — and the Golden State Warriors rose to the occasion Sunday night, defeating the Houston Rockets 103–89 to punch their ticket to the second round of the NBA Playoffs, setting up a showdown with the Minnesota Timberwolves.

While stars like Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler, and Draymond Green are often credited with the Warriors’ success, it was offseason acquisition Buddy Hield who stole the spotlight on Sunday.

Hield was sensational from start to finish, pouring in a game-high 33 points on an astounding 12-of-15 shooting from the field, including 9-of-11 from beyond the arc. He also chipped in three rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and a steal in a complete performance.

Most impressively, Hield etched his name into the record books — becoming the first player in NBA history to score 30+ points in a Game 7 without attempting a single free throw, as well as tying the record for most 3-pointers made in a Game 7.

A former lottery pick, Hield has always possessed a natural scoring touch. His elite shot-making ability, dating back to his college days at Oklahoma, has never been in question. However, inconsistency has often kept him from elevating to the next tier in the NBA.

Now, playing alongside Curry in the Warriors' backcourt, Hield seems to have found his rhythm and role. If he can maintain his efficiency from beyond the arc, he gives Golden State a much-needed offensive spark — one that could be crucial in their pursuit of deep playoff run in the Western Conference.
