TAMPA — Bucs tackle Luke Goedeke may have taken another step toward being activated for Sunday’s game against the Patriots.

Goedeke, who was placed on injured reserve after aggravating a foot injury in Week 2 at Houston, practiced in pads Thursday and by all accounts played well.

The Bucs have a 21-day period during which they can activate Goedeke.

“The ‘Enforcer’’s back,” tackle Tristin Wirfs said. ”No, it’s great seeing him back out there practicing. Being who he is. Chirping people already. It’s the second day of practice for him, and he’s chirping guys. Having him back is awesome. That’s our guy."

Charlie Heck has been holding down the right tackle spot during Godeke’s absence.

“However it shakes out, we’ll be ready to go,” Wirfs said. “Charlie has done an amazing job this year. If we can get Luke back, great. If not, Charlie will be ready to go.”

Wirfs went through his own ramp-up period following knee surgery in July.

“The biggest thing is your pass pro(tection)‚" Wirfs said. “Sitting on a bull rush. The third-and-long situation. ... But he looks good moving around. We’ll see how it goes. We’ll see how he feels after a big day like (Thursday), but we’ll see at the end of the week.”

However, the Bucs still are unlikely to be without several key starters.

Receiver Chris Godwin (fibula), running back Bucky Irving (foot, shoulder) and outside linebacker Haason Reddick (ankle, knee) did not practice again Thursday, and it appears they’ll likely miss Sunday’s game.
