In 2020, Bryson DeChambeau called one of the most iconic and challenging golf courses in the world a personal par-67. The links gods took note. In the three years that followed his Augusta National slander, the LIV Golf headliner finished tied for 46th in 2021, then failed to make the cut in both 2022 and 2023 at the Masters.

But DeChambeau rallied for a sixth place finish in 2024. Now the two-time U.S. Open winner is offering up a bit of humility for his words -- two years after denying he regretted anything.

“I’ve always since said I don’t regret saying that 67 thing, because I learnt from that experience and it made me a better person. But do I wish I hadn’t said it? I do. Really, I do," DeChambeau told The Telegraph's James Corrigan. "It impacted some people negatively and I don’t want that, no matter how much of a benefit it might have been to me maturing.

“I can see that it was disrespectful to some and I’m sorry for that. Boy, it was a humbling experience. But for me it was simply from a statistical viewpoint and yardages and looking at, if I’m playing well, I could or should be hitting the greens in two or whatever.

“It was motivation for myself and not intended as anything otherwise. I’ve never disrespected Augusta internally."

DeChambeau enters 2025's majors play on a heater. He parlayed last year's tie for sixth at the Masters into a second place finish at the PGA Championship. He followed that with his second U.S. Open title before missing the cut at the British Open. He's coming off a fifth place finish at LIV Golf Miami, his final tune-up before returning to the storied course where he finished 18 over his personal par in 2024..
