The Boston Bruins will be a team to watch this offseason.
Boston made the playoffs this season after being sellers at the trade deadline a year prior. The Bruins were a surprise team this year, as Boston wasn’t expected to make the postseason entering the year.
Yet, the Bruins had plenty of good years from some surprise players, and one of those was Viktor Arvidsson who the team acquired from the Edmonton Oilers. Arvidsson was an impact top-six forward, and now, Bruins insider Fluto Shinzawa of The Athletic predicts the team will extend him to a three-year, $18 million deal.
“This would give Viktor Arvidsson some security in what is likely to be his final NHL deal and the Bruins their No. 2 right wing back,” Shinzawa wrote in an article published on Friday. “There’s risk to the agreement because of Arvidsson’s age and no-holds-barred playing style. But the Bruins are desperate for speed, skill and tenacity up front.”
Arvidsson was a low-risk acquisition by the Bruins last offseason, but he ended up being a key player, and Boston will look to re-sign him before free agency begins on July 1. $6 million per season is also a fair deal for a top-six forward who can record 25+ goals a season.
The 33-year-old Swede recorded 25 goals and 29 assists for 54 points which was a great season, after back-to-back lackluster years with the Oilers and Los Angeles Kings.
