The Boston Bruins (43-26-9) lost again, falling 2-1 in overtime to the Philadelphia Flyers (39-26-12) at Xfinity Mobile Arena on Easter Sunday.
Pavel Zacha (29) scored the lone Bruins’ goal, coming early in the third period on the power play.
Joonas Korpisalo made 29 saves, including three in overtime, but fell to 13-9-4 on the season. He is 7-1-5 in his last 13 starts.
Marco Sturm changed the forward lines ahead of the game. He reunited David Pastrnak with Elias Lindholm and Morgan Geekie on the first line, leaving Lukas Reichel, Fraser Minten, and Marat Khusnutdinov for the third line.
The game marked the 800th in Nikita Zadorov’s NHL career.
Christian Dvorak scored on a 2-on-1 at the 4:19 mark, set up by Michigan State product Porter Martone.
Charlie McAvoy ended the first period by taking a roughing penalty after punching Flyers captain Sean Couturier in the face.
The Bruins, much like the third period of Saturday’s game, only directed three shots on goal in the first period on Sunday. The Flyers skated into the locker room with a 1-0 lead and a 6-3 shot advantage.
They poured 11 shots onto Dan Vladar, the former Bruins prospect, in the second period but did not beat him. Vladar finished the game with 18 saves.
The Flyers had three power play opportunities, starting at the beginning of the second period with McAvoy’s roughing penalty. Morgan Geekie took two more, the first for tripping and the second for throwing his stick onto the ice after Charlie McAvoy’s broke.
The Bruins killed all three Flyers power plays but still trailed after 40 minutes.
There were 105 seconds left on a Bruins power play to start the third period. They only needed 35. Casey Mittelstadt scooped a rebound behind the goal line while Pavel Zacha crashed the net. Mittelstadt played a short pass to Zacha, who went high to beat the sprawled-out Vladar.
Both sides pushed in the third period, but neither side scored. The Flyers added 10 shots in the third period to the Bruins’ five.
The game needed overtime.
The Bruins found themselves in a hole in the 3-on-3, and it quickly became a 5-on-3 for the Flyers. David Pastrnak took a careless penalty trying to prevent Christian Dvorak from a breakaway, then on the ensuing faceoff, Charlie McAvoy caught Trevor Zegras with a high stick.
Then the sixth-overall pick from the 2025 NHL Draft scored the game-winner. Porter Martone, playing in his fourth professional game, scored on the 5-on-3 and launched the Flyers into the playoffs.
The Bruins’ playoff chances increased with the loser point; they now sit with a 97.8% chance per MoneyPuck.
The road trip, which started with three losses, concludes on Tuesday in Raleigh, NC, with a game against the Metropolitan Division-leading Carolina Hurricanes (49-21-6).
