The search for the next head coach of the Cleveland Browns is underway, with the team having interviewed some candidates and more planned in the coming weeks. After the firing of Kevin Stefanski earlier this week, Browns owner Jimmy Haslam talked about wanting to keep defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz with the team. Schwartz interviewed for the team's head coaching position this week.
Before the Rams and Panthers playoff game, NFL Insider Jay Glazer was speaking about the open head coaching positions around the league. Glazer noted that the Browns are telling head coaching candidates that, as Haslam said, they'd like to keep Schwartz on staff as the team's defensive coordinator.
Schwartz has done a good job, but you are limiting your candidate pool if you are telling them they cannot hire their own defensive coordinator. It means that unless a coach runs a scheme similar to Schwartz's, you are likely to find only offensive-minded head coaches willing to accommodate this request.
