The Cleveland Browns made another free agency move on Wednesday to continue to bolster the offensive side of the football.
This time, it was the signing of tight end Tyler Stoll from New Orleans. Cleveland is mitigating the future departure of David Njoku this offseason to pave the way for Harold Fannin Jr. to take over at the position. The Browns have traditionally carried three tight ends, and Todd Monken has carried three in the last couple of seasons in Baltimore.
So, the Browns still have some work to do at the position, but they got a little bit better at an affordable cost.
Stoll came to the NFL out of Nebraska, where he didn't stand out statistically. His best season in college was a 21 catch, 245 yard, three touchdown year in his sophomore season in 2018. When he came out to the NFL, he was not selected in the 2021 draft, and he signed with the Philadelphia Eagles, where he started his NFL career.
Cleveland will be the fourth stop for Stoll. After spending three seasons in Philadelphia, he was traded to the Miami Dolphins in 2024. After playing just four games in Miami, he went to New Orleans for just one season in 2025. He hit the open market this free agency and signed with the Browns.
Statistically, Stoll doesn't stand out at all. He has had just 28 receptions for 239 yards and one touchdown in his NFL career. In his first three years, he didn't miss a game before appearing in only 11 games in 2024 and 15 games in 2025. He has shown decent durability throughout his young career, something that the Browns will need from him.
While he only has one career NFL touchdown, it was sure a sweet one. His former quarterback, Spencer Rattler, flushed from the pocket and rolled to his right. He waited as long as he could before pulling the trigger into the waiting hands of Stoll. It wasn't an easy catch for Stoll, who had to secure the football and then make sure that his feet stayed in bounds. A sweet catch to get on the board in his NFL career.
Stoll is coming to Cleveland as an extension of their tackles. He is an experienced blocker who can be a sledgehammer next to Tytus Howard and can be a coach next to a potential rookie tackle. This is the veteran presence that this room needs after Njoku departs, and a guy who can stick his nose in the mix. He can also create a major matchup issue for opposing defenses if Todd Monken starts to experiment with 12 and 13 personnel packages.
