With the 2026 NFL Free Agency period beginning to wind down, the Cleveland Browns and general manager Andrew Berry continue to work on improving the roster for the upcoming season.
Earlier this week, Cleveland made multiple splashes within the free agency pool, signing a pair of offensive guards in Zion Johnson and Elgton Jenkins. In addition to the moves on offense, Berry and the front office also landed a key defensive playmaker in linebacker Quincy Williams, who has a rich history with newly-hired defensive coordinator Mike Rutenberg.
Now, as we head into the later parts of the Free Agency period, Cleveland has simultaneously moved off a handful of backups this offseason.
ESPN’s Daniel Oyefusi reported on Wednesday that the Browns did not apply a tender to four restricted free agents this offseason, which includes the following players:
One of the main players that did not receive a tender from the organization this offseason is linebacker Mohamoud Diabate, who held a key rotational role with the Browns throughout the last three seasons. During his time in Cleveland, Diabate recorded 127 tackles, three pass deflections, and one sack in his 46 games played with the struggling franchise.
However, with the addition of Williams to the rotation and the possibility of Berry selecting a linebacker in the upcoming draft, it was clear that the Browns would likely not place a tender on Diabate this offseason.
Another name amongst the non-tender players was tight end Blake Whiteheart, who served as a depth piece at his position over the last two seasons. Whiteheart may have only recorded eight catches for 55 yards and one touchdown with the Browns, but he managed to carve out a role on former head coach Kevin Stefanski’s roster as a pure blocking tight end.
Similar to Diabate, Cleveland’s decision to sign former New Orleans Saints tight end Jack Stoll earlier this week forced Whiteheart to hit the free agency market. And despite the team’s hopes to find a backup tight end in either the open market or the upcoming draft, the 25-year-old will now become an unrestricted free agent.
