The Browns’ head coaching search keeps getting a little tougher by the passing day. Jesse Minter and Mike McDaniel both passed on interview trips to Cleveland recently, going with teams they thought were better fits.
That’s left the Browns in a tight spot. In-house defensive coordinator Jim Schwartz is now getting serious buzz as a candidate. The problem is Cleveland doesn’t have much leverage left.

Grant Udinski and Nathan Scheelhaase are both interviewing for other jobs that most around the NFL see as way more appealing than what the Browns are offering.
Cleveland’s still grinding through the process, though. According to reports, the team brought in a veteran NFL exec to help sit in on candidate meetings and get another set of eyes on things.
“Among those involved in the Browns HC search is former Chargers and Raiders GM Tom Telesco, who has been serving as a consultant and helping the organization in its process to find a head coach,” NFL Insider Jordan Schultz shared on X. “I’m told he has been in meetings with the in-person candidates.”
Telesco’s been around. He started with a summer internship for the Bills back in college, then grabbed a scouting assistant gig with the Panthers.
Indianapolis is where he really made his name, going from area scout all the way up to director of player personnel during the Peyton Manning years and some of the Colts’ best runs.

The Chargers made him their General Manager in 2013. He stuck around for 11 seasons before getting canned in December 2023.
The Raiders gave him a shot as General Manager in 2024, but that ended fast. Now the Browns are leaning on what he knows while they try to sort out this coaching decision.
